I also completed a subspecialty endoscopy fellowship at St Mark’s Hospital, an internationally recognised centre of excellence for intestinal disorders and endoscopy, before my substantive appointment as a consultant specialist endoscopist in the same centre. I have extensive experience in gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy. As part of my academic training, I completed a PhD at University College London (UCL) in the area of gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumours and also an MSc in medical education at UCL. I completed my PhD at UCL in 2020. This was in the area of gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumours, and involved both clinical and translational research, leading to multiple publications and numerous conference abstracts, as well as successful funding applications totalling over £1m. I have also been involved in qualitative research through my MSc in medical education at UCL, which has been critical in my development as a clinical and academic teacher.
In addition, I have been involved in endoscopy research, particularly in the area of video capsule endoscopy, which is a minimally invasive tool for the investigation of the gut. I have published widely in the field of video capsule endoscopy having worked in close clinical and academic collaboration with Professor Epstein at the Royal Free Hospital. I have been co-investigator for the Colon Capsule Pilot in the NHS, a national project investigating the role of colon capsule endoscopy for the evaluation of patients with large bowel symptoms. I have also been appointed as a specialist committee member on the NICE (The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) Diagnostics Advisory Committee for the role and cost-effectiveness of colon capsule endoscopy in the NHS.
