GASTROENTEROLOGY

One of Dr Laskaratos’ main interests is making endoscopy and colonoscopy easier and more comfortable for his patients. As an experienced and specialist endoscopist at St Mark’s, The National Bowel Hospital, he has an excellent endoscopic technique and uses appropriately minimally invasive procedures to investigate his patients’ symptoms, such as video capsule endoscopy – which is simply swallowed by the patient with a sip of water – and transnasal endoscopy, which significantly reduces gagging and can be performed without sedation, allowing for a quick patient recovery.

Dr Laskaratos’ interests are varied and he often treats patients with common bowel symptoms and conditions, such as:

  • Acid reflux
  • Swallowing difficulties
  • Indigestion (dyspepsia)
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Slow gastric emptying (gastroparesis)
  • Bloating and abdominal pain
  • Constipation (slow bowel transit) and diarrhoea
  • Small bowel disorders such as Crohn’s disease and coeliac disease
  • Gut polyposis syndromes and gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumours
  • Bowel cancer screening, surveillance and removal of polyps for colon Cancer prevention
  • Non-complex inflammatory bowel disease
  • Iron deficiency anaemia
